Research and Development
Miss Elisabeth Riera defended her doctoral thesis on artificial reefs on January 21, 2020, the result of four years of research in Master 2 then within the framework of the Doctoral School (co-directed by Professor Patrice Francour, ECOSEAS-University laboratory Côte d'Azur and Doctor Cédric Hubas, UMR BOREA-National Museum of Natural History).
This research work, directly related to the reefs made with a 3D printer immersed in the Larvotto MPA, has highlighted the intrinsic characteristics to be taken into account for any artificial reef immersion project and the associated methods.
An initial question: “How to choose the right material and the right structure for an immersion program to be effective?”
Two objectives:
1: Test the effect of the quality of the materials by analyzing the colonization of the fixed communities.
2: Quantitatively evaluate the structure of artificial reefs and propose a classification.
Miss Elisabeth Riera received congratulations from the entire jury for the quality of her work, which opens up new perspectives in the field of artificial reefs.
