Monitoring Human Activities
Reducing pressures
Monaco's Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are among the oldest MPAs located in an urban environment. This unique context requires the management and monitoring of human activities to ensure preservation goals are met.
As the managing authority, the AMPN conducts various monitoring activities:
- Recording of vessels using the Larvotto channels during the summer season and major events (Grand Prix and Monaco Yacht Show) since 2016
- Monitoring of nautical activities (motorized and non-motorized) at Larvotto since 2022
- Counting of scuba diving activities (both recreational and professional) in the two MPAs since 2022
- Assessment of visitor numbers in the Larvotto swimming area in 2023
The data collected from all relevant stakeholders helps ensure that human activities are compatible with environmental protection.
This program is supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
