Monitoring fish juveniles
Natural Heritage
The AMPN has just concluded its summer monitoring campaign of juveniles in Monaco’s Marine Protected Areas. These young fish play a key role in replenishing adult populations and maintaining ecological balance.
Ideal observation conditions, with calm seas and excellent visibility, made it possible to count nearly 7,000 juveniles. Sand smelts, salema, and damselfish — common species in shallow waters — were by far the most prevalent.
But that’s not all: ecologically important species such as seabream, barracudas, and sea bass were also spotted — a positive sign for local biodiversity.
Next monitoring session: Autumn 2025!
