Monitoring fish juveniles

Natural Heritage

As the manager of Monaco’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), AMPN has been conducting quarterly monitoring of juvenile fish since 2023. These early life stages are crucial for the renewal of adult populations and the ecological functioning of MPAs.

The winter survey has just concluded. Although this season is generally less favorable for juveniles, approximately 4,000 individuals were recorded, including saddled seabream, mullets, and salemas.

Most of these juveniles were concentrated above algae-covered rock formations, highlighting the importance of preserving this habitat.

See you in spring 2025 for the next survey!
