Monitoring fish juveniles
Natural Heritage
The early life stages of fish play a key role in structuring adult populations. Healthy juveniles, living in well-preserved habitats, have a better chance of growing and strengthening adult stocks.
As part of its mission to manage Monaco's Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), the AMPN has been monitoring juvenile fish populations every three months since 2023.
The fall campaign has just concluded, with over 7,000 individuals recorded across 15 different species. Damselfish, saddled seabream, and mullet were particularly numerous, observed mostly near algae-covered rock formations—an ideal habitat that provides them with both shelter and food.
See you at the beginning of 2025 for the next winter campaign!
