Marine Educative Area "Generation 8" : The effects of climate change on tropical corals

Marine Educative Area

Each week for the past month, the team of researchers from the Monaco Scientific Centre conducting the coral bleaching experiment has been sharing a new video. These episodes allow the CM2 class from the Institution François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré, involved in the Marine Educative Area program led by the AMPN, to follow the evolution of the two tropical coral colonies: the control colony and the one subjected to thermal stress.

Once the coral has bleached, the temperature of the aquarium under thermal stress will be gradually reduced from 31 °C to 25 °C to promote the recovery of the colony.

In the upcoming episodes, the students will thus be able to observe the corals’ capacity for resilience when favorable conditions are restored quickly.

It is also a way to become aware that by fighting effectively against climate change, we help preserve ecosystems.
