Marine Educative Area "Generation 8" : DE intervention

Marine Educative Area

On Tuesday, March 24th, the Department of the Environment (DE) visited the CM2 class of Institution François d’Assise–Nicolas Barré.

The session began with a review of concepts related to global warming and its impacts, illustrated by concrete examples such as urban heat islands and rising sea levels.

Split into several groups, the students then went to the MEA to conduct their own measurements. Equipped with sensors, they measured the temperature of different materials, highlighting that some retain heat more than others.

Following this, workshops allowed them to deepen their understanding of iconic species from the MEA, such as Cystoseira, Nivéole de Nice, or the great cormorant, as well as the impacts of climate change on these organisms.

The session concluded with a discussion on solutions to implement, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving natural areas, or raising public awareness.

The students showed great interest and quickly understood the importance of the actions being taken in the Principality. The knowledge they have gained since the beginning of the year will enable them to become true advocates for environmental protection.

Program supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Government of Monaco.
