Marine Educative Area "Generation 8" : Apprentice researchers
Marine Educative Area
Transformed into “apprentice researchers” on January 20, the CM2 students from the Institution François d’Assise – Nicolas Barré donned their lab coats for workshops held at the Monaco Scientific Centre as part of the Marine Educative Area program led by the AMPN.
The first workshop allowed them to become familiar with several coral species, the diversity of skeletons, and colors. They also examined, under a binocular magnifier, the small shrimp used to feed the corals.
In the second workshop, they compared the colonies used in the bleaching experiment, explored coral anatomy (polyps, tentacles, mouth), and identified zooxanthellae, symbiotic algae found in coral tissues. They also compared bleached and non-bleached samples, whose evolution they have been monitoring for a month.
