Marine Educative Area "Generation 7" : FAST protocol at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

Marine Educative Area

This morning, the AMPN team introduced the 7ème A class from Saint-Charles School to the FAST protocol (Fish Assemblage Sampling Technique).

This fish-counting method, used in citizen science initiatives, allows volunteer divers to contribute to the monitoring of fish populations conducted by scientists. Simple yet effective, it provides valuable data for research.

After receiving tailored theoretical training, the students put their knowledge into practice by identifying the various species present in the Mediterranean section of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. At the same time, a clue-based game helped them deepen their understanding of protected species and exotic species found in the aquariums.

These activities offered the opportunity to explore scientific rigor and understand the threats to marine biodiversity, including human pressures and climate change. These learnings provided them with the tools to propose concrete actions for the preservation of their MEA.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco for their warm welcome and support in bringing this program to life. This collaboration offered students a rich experience filled with discoveries and learning that will nurture their commitment to protecting marine biodiversity.

This program is supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Government of Monaco.
