Marine Educative Area "Generation 6": Sustainable fishing
Marine Educative Area
This morning, the students of the 7ème A of Saint-Charles School, responsible for the Marine Educative Area for the year 2023-2024, took part in a workshop on sustainable fishing.
The workshop, co-facilitated by the AMPN and the Fédération Monégasque de Pêches Sportives, was led by Mr. David Gamba, president of the Federation.
It began by explaining to the children the basics of fishing, the distinctions between professional fishing and recreational fishing, as well as the various techniques used depending on the targeted species.
Subsequently, the children participated in various workshops designed by the International Game Fish Association to train future fishermen, issuing them a "fishing passport" certifying their initiation into sportive and responsible practices.
They were able to explore recreational fishing equipment, learning about the specifics of different lures, as well as the main fishing knots. Additionally, two workshops raised awareness about good fishing practices and current regulations.
This workshop provided students with a better understanding of the human pressure exerted on their Marine Educative Area, encouraging them to consider management measures within the framework of their "action for the sea".
A BIG THANK YOU to the volunteers of the Monegasque Federation of Sport Fishing for their commitment:
- David Gamba: President FMPS
- Alberto Salvini: Head of Education Department FMPS
