Science Festival 2026

Education and Awareness

On Wednesday, September 30, AMPN was delighted to take part in the 2026 edition of Monaco’s Science Festival, organized by the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco and the Monaco Scientific Center.

The event provided an opportunity to introduce the public to the two Marine Protected Areas of Monaco, established and managed by AMPN.

Visitors were able to discover the richness of the Posidonia seagrass meadow and the diversity of fish communities within the MPAs, as well as the research programmes carried out by AMPN to better understand and protect these ecosystems.

How can we monitor the health of a marine ecosystem? How can we measure changes in biodiversity? What effects does protection have on fish communities and habitats? These are some of the questions that scientific monitoring conducted in the MPAs helps to answer.

Artificial reefs were also presented from an ecological restoration perspective: their design, deployment, monitoring of their colonization, and observation of their role in creating new habitats. This scientific approach also captured the imagination of younger visitors, who were invited to think about how we can create habitats that support marine life by building their own “fish houses” using Blokos bricks.

A day dedicated to science, observation and knowledge-sharing, helping us better understand marine ecosystems and highlighting how research contributes concretely to their preservation.
