MPA presentation at Lycée Albert 1er in 2nde ES 1 class : Intervention n°1

Education and Awareness

On Thursday, May 24th, AMPN visited the 2nde ES1 class at Lycée Albert 1er.

This meeting was part of the Adopt a Float program, a scientific and educational initiative that allows students to "adopt" and track an oceanographic float in real time. These instruments drift for several months offshore, collecting data on temperature, salinity, and oxygen levels, helping to deepen our understanding of how oceans function. Through this project, the students become active participants in oceanographic research and develop greater awareness of the challenges involved in protecting the marine environment.

To complement this dive into the scientific world, the students also explored a more local aspect of marine conservation through the actions of AMPN. The association presented its missions within Monaco’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), which it manages. Students learned about the richness and vulnerability of these areas—true biodiversity sanctuaries in an urban setting. They also deepened their understanding of the crucial ecological role of Posidonia seagrass beds, the importance of the artificial reefs deployed by AMPN, and the scientific monitoring carried out throughout the year.

Congratulations to the class for their enthusiasm and the quality of their discussions!

A heartfelt thank you as well to their teacher for her commitment to raising awareness among the younger generations.
