MPA presentation at École des Révoires in CM2 class : Intervention n°2
Education and Awareness
The students of 7ème B and C from École des Révoires had the opportunity to explore the Larvotto seaside complex during two outings, on February 7th and March 3rd. This visit was part of a series of three sessions led by AMPN on the theme of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
Following a general introduction, the students walked along the promenade to observe the MPA from a closer perspective. This exploration allowed them to identify various land-based features - such as informational panels, waste management facilities, and shops - as well as marine infrastructure, including buoys, artificial breakwaters, and rock formations.
Stepping into the shoes of scientific divers, they then learned about the protocol for counting brown meagres and dusky groupers, applying it on the beach! Divided into three groups, they took turns playing the roles of divers and fish: while the “brown meagres” and “dusky groupers” mimicked the natural behavior of these species, the divers had to carefully record their observations, noting the size, and behavior of each individual.
The workshop concluded with a discussion, allowing the students to reflect on the challenges and importance of conducting underwater species surveys.
A fun and immersive experience to better understand the significance of Marine Protected Areas!
