Marine Educative Area Cleanup 2025
Education and Awareness
This morning, the AMPN organized a land and underwater cleanup of the Marine Educative Area, located between the Rainier III seawall of Port Hercule and the entrance to Fontvieille Harbor.
This operation was carried out in collaboration with the Club d’Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco (CESMM), the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA), EcoTank, and with the support of Carrefour Monaco. It brought together 25 divers and 24 volunteers on land, including many children who came to lend a hand in protecting the coastline.
In total, 67.4 kg of waste were removed from the sea — mainly bottles but also around 100 meters of fishing line — and 15.3 kg of waste were collected on land, including 1,041 cigarette butts, despite the regular cleaning work carried out by SMA teams.
These results highlight both the effectiveness of the mobilization and the need to continue raising awareness.
The site was chosen to support the CM2 class of the Institution François d’Assise–Nicolas Barré, who are responsible this year for the Marine Educative Area. The goal was not only to clean the zone they will be working on throughout the year, but also to make them aware, from the very start of the project, of the issue of pollution and its impact on the marine environment.
This observation will feed into the year’s program, which focuses on climate change, and more specifically, the effects of global warming on biodiversity.
The actions of AMPN are supported by the Princely Government and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
