Larvotto MPA cleanup
Education and Awareness
On Friday, May 22nd, the students of 7ème E at Saint-Charles School participated in cleaning up the beach of the Larvotto Marine Protected Area, with the support of Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA).
Following three sessions, both in the classroom and on-site, dedicated to discovering MPAs, their role, and their importance, the students wanted to take action by making a concrete gesture in favor of environmental preservation.
During the afternoon, they equipped themselves with gloves and walked along the public Larvotto beach to help clean it up. The collected waste was then sorted, categorized, and weighed to identify its composition and direct it toward the most suitable recycling process.
This operation resulted in nearly one kilogram of waste being collected, including over 300 cigarette butts — despite the smoking ban on the beach — as well as a significant amount of plastic packaging.
To recognize their involvement, @SMA awarded them a “Coastal Protector” certificate. Collection bags and various educational tools were also distributed to support their efforts toward better waste management and marine environment protection.
