Larvotto Cleanup 2024

Education and Awareness

This morning, the AMPN, in its role as the manager of Monaco’s Marine Protected Areas, organized the annual cleanup of the Larvotto MPA.

Thanks to the support of the Association’s volunteers, the Club d'Exploration Sous-Marine de Monaco (CESMM), which generously provided boats and divers, as well as the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement (SMA), which supplied human resources and equipment, nearly 100 kg of waste were collected. The SMA then sorted and weighed it to ensure proper disposal.

At sea, 36 kg of plastic, 24 kg of metal, 12 kg of ropes, 10 kg of fabric, and 10 kg of glass were recovered.

On land, as every year, cigarette butts were the main items collected. This year, 554 butts were gathered, despite the smoking ban on the beach and the daily cleaning carried out by the SMA.

We hope that the awareness efforts by AMPN, its partners, and the Government of Monaco will help reduce the amount collected each year.

A big thank you to CESMM, SMA, and all the participants for their commitment to protecting the Mediterranean.
